Thermal Investigation of a Turbocharger Using IR Thermography

An experimental thermal survey of a turbocharger was performed in an engine test cell using IR thermography. The emissivity coefficients housings were specified furnace and camera. It shown that the turbine, compressor, bearing are 0.92, 0.65, 0.74, respectively. In addition, thermocouples mounted on housing to validate temperature camera while running cell. To compare data thermocouple with from camera, image taken sensor’s location housing. results show prediction has less than 1 percent error. Steady-state tests at various working points unsteady including warm-up cool-down performed. measurements indicate turbine casing’s maximum is 839 °C. Furthermore, shows area’s average temperature, which close housing, 7 °C lower area compressor near side should be higher; however, effect water passing through decreases temperature.
